Exercise With Oxygen Therapy (EWOT) is exactly what it sounds like: brief, moderate exercise while breathing high-flow oxygen through a mask. It sounds simple. The physiology is not.
Under high oxygen partial pressure and mild exercise, blood plasma carries dramatically more dissolved oxygen than it does at rest — enough to reach tissues that ordinary red blood cell delivery struggles with, especially in the smallest capillaries. That extra oxygen supports mitochondrial ATP production, reduces oxidative stress paradoxically (yes, more oxygen delivered correctly can reduce oxidative damage), and improves microcirculation over a series of sessions.

Evidence & mechanism
EWOT is grounded in decades of research on oxygen physiology and microcirculation. It differs from hyperbaric oxygen (which uses pressurized chambers) but shares the underlying principle: increase tissue oxygen delivery to support cellular metabolism. Regular exercise on high-flow oxygen has been shown to improve microcirculation and exercise capacity in older and deconditioned populations.
Who is a good candidate
Most adults are good candidates. Patients with significant cardiopulmonary disease should clear EWOT with their cardiologist or pulmonologist first. We screen for contraindications during your consultation.
